The No Lamb Kofta
Following our success with 100% whole vegetable-based burgers, it was only natural to look for new ideas to keep up with trends. TVP’s (textured vegetable proteins) although around for a long time, were on the rise and started to take hold in the development of analogue meat products in UK retail.
We knew which Retail partner was our ‘go-to’ to test our ideas and their summer BBQ Brief lent itself to present our new “hybrid” concept, a No Lamb Kofta.
Building on our know-how of blending vegetables, pulses, and mushrooms, with a new inclusion of TVP, we instinctively knew it would elevate an old concept, thus meeting retail trends.
The NPD challenge was to explore and learn about textured proteins and how to work with them; manage hydration, off-tastes, and texture capabilities….and of course, the Kofta had to cook to perfection on the BBQ.
The Kofta was successfully launched May 2019 in the Vegan BBQ summer line and featured a second successful summer.
This was our first retail Vegan line.
